1936 Norfolk Bicentennial Commemorative Half Dollar
Minted in honor of Norfolk's 200th aniversary of its incorporation as a borough in 1736.  The obverse features the seal of the city of Norfolk and the reverse features the Norfolk Mace, which was presented to the city by Lieutenant Governor Dinwiddie in1753.  Of the original 25,000 coins, fewer than 17,000 remain due to some meltings around 1938.  Many pieces can be found in higher grades since few actually circulated in commerce.  Its composition was 10% copper and 90% silver and contained 0.36169 ounces of pure silver.
