The Tidewater Coin Club is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the numismatic needs of collectors in the Tidewater Virginia area and to education regarding the history of coinage. The Club was established in February 1956 and has met continuously since. We are a member club of the American Numismatic Association and the Virginia Numismatic Association. Monthly club meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30PM at the Norfolk VFW Post 4809, 5728 Bartee Street, Norfolk, VA 23502. Each meeting features door prizes, raffles, numismatic exhibits, refreshments, and an educational program on some aspect of numismatics. Dues are $20 per year for adults, $5 per year for junior members (under 18), $25 per year for a family membership, and $175 for an adult life membership. January is the annual membership renewal month. Meetings (except for December) are open to anyone with an interest in numismatics. Membership is encouraged.

Attention members: If you are a member of the ANA, please send an email to with your name and ANA membership number. Our club's annual dues is waived if we send the ANA a list of 15 ANA members.

Announcements: The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond is looking for someone to give a presentation on Colonial American money on Tuesday, September 17 to their internal staff – a high level overview of what it was like in Colonial America and how difficult the money system was. It would be a 30 minute time slot including Q&A. Additionally, they would like to host a fun 30 minute Money Roadshow, similar to PBS' Antiques Roadshow. They have seven employees who have submitted photos of the money that would have a quick less than 5 min evaluation – something to help them better understand that they have. Photos would be shared prior to the roadshow to allow time to research their entries. For example, someone has a 1943 steel penny. Some basic history about the need to mint US steel pennies and a possible value estimate range – we are not looking for anything official. The program would last from 1:00 – 2:30, followed by an opportunity for questions. They suggest arriving at 10:30 to get checked in and go over any AV needs. Lunch would be provided. You would be able to leave at 3:00.
If you are interested in helping with their presentations, call (804) 697-8408.
